It’s a new year which means it’s time to hit the reset button and set your goals for 2019. A great way to do this is to make a vision board. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, it’s basically a collage of words and/or images that represent your life goals. It’s believed that if you focus your energy on the things you want, you’ll attract them into your life.
Write down all your goals
What do you want to achieve this year? Create a list of your goals and be as detailed as possible. Think about each area of your life and decide how you want it to look and feel. No dream is too big or too small.
Gather your materials
There are a couple of different ways you can create your vision board. You can do it digitally using a graphic design program like Adobe Illustrator or a basic Word document on your computer. Simply search for images online and add them to your project. Traditionally, people use a poster board or cork board. You can have separate boards for each area of your life or buy one big board and divide it into different quadrants. Decide which approach is best for you and shop accordingly. Here’s what you’ll need to get started.
- Poster board or cork board.
- Glue or double-sided tape
- Scissors
- A stack of magazines or images/quotes from the internet
To help get yourself in the peak creative mindset, you can light candles or play some relaxing music while you work.
Find words and images that speak to you
Now comes the fun part of making your vision, choosing images that reflect your goals. Go through your magazines and cut out anything that inspires you or speaks to your spirit. You can choose pictures of places you want to go, people you admire, positive affirmations, quotes, etc. Everything doesn’t have to be literal depiction of what you’re trying to attract. For example, you can use golden coins or piles of cash to represent abundance.
Get creative
Before you start sticking images on your vision board, take a few minutes to plan its placement. Some people don’t mind overlapping images, but others are deeply annoyed by it. So, decide what type of vibe you’re going for and where each image will go. Have fun and get creative with it. Fill empty spaces with words of affirmation or quotes. Put a picture of yourself in the middle and surround it with your goals. Just make sure the end result is something you enjoy looking at.
Put it on display
Once you’ve made your vision board, hang it in a place where you’re forced to see it every day. This will help you stay motivated as you work towards what you want.
